What a brilliant Expedition Symposium 2023!
Hosted just a ten minute walk from our Capel Curig shop by the National Mountain Centre Plas Y Brenin, the inaugural Expedition Symposium was a two day collection of workshops and talks designed to equip participants with everything required to embark on a land or water expedition.
The atmosphere was buzzing throughout the weekend with fellow adventurers meeting over dinner and inspiration from films and talks by Olly Sanders and Mick Fowler. The workshops covered a vast array of topics including:

This year, we hosted the Food, Fuel and Fluids workshop with the support of our suppliers at MSR, Expedition foods and Real Turmat foods. There were some great questions and uber nerdy facts: including the micron measurement of a purifier vs filter, how to measure how much gas is left in your canister, how a pressure regulator in a gas stove aids performance, which stove can cook without a flame and how to use your re-hydrating food as a hot water bottle.
It’s possible that the free tasters of a wide range of expedition foods and Real Termat Foods were the real reason every one of our workshops was full but we had so much fun being challenged with technical questions, chatting to folk about where they were going and catching up with friends that we can only hope that those attending enjoyed themselves as much as we did!
We also need to make a special mention here of the fantastic Plas Y Brenin catering team who literally put the icing on the cake with their fabulous expedition menu featuring foods from mountain regions around the world. Every meal was a delight.
