Mountain Goat Circuit

Cylchdaith yr Afr Fynydd

The Joe Brown Shops in conjunction with Rab are proud to announce a great new challenge for runners and walkers alike:

The Mountain Goat Circuit is a 50km defined route with 3800m of ascent that loops the skyline from our Capel Curig shop, over the highest peak in Wales, past our Llanberis shop, and finishes back along the Glyderau skyline at our Capel shop front door.

Immerse yourself in the magical Welsh mountain environment of classic North Wales terrain offering moderate to hard running, fastpacking, or walking - with a host of food and accommodation options halfway in Llanberis and no time limit - the choice is yours!

Mae Siopau Joe Brown a Rab yn falch o gyhoeddi her newydd wych i redwyr a cherddwyr fel ei gilydd:

Mae Cylchdaith Yr Afr Fynydd yn llwybr diffiniedig 50km gydag esgyniad 3800m sy’n dolennu’r nenlinell o’n siop yng Nghapel Curig, dros gopa uchaf Cymru, heibio ein siop yn Llanberis ac yn dod i ben ar hyd nenlinell y Glyderau wrth ddrws ffrynt ein siop yng Nghapel Curig.

Ymgollwch yn amgylchedd mynyddig hudolus Cymru ar dir clasurol Gogledd Cymru sy’n cynnig rhedeg cymedrol i redeg anodd, gwarbacio cyflym, gwarbacio neu gerdded – gyda llu o ddewisiadau bwyd a llety hanner ffordd yn Llanberis a dim terfyn amser – chi piau’r dewis!

What To Expect:

Following mostly fell terrain with a little slate and rocky trail thrown in you can expect a little of everything underfoot; runnable grassy loveliness interspersed with slate, broken rock, rubble, scree, trod and bog.

There will be challenges, particularly when the cloud is down across the Glyderau as you will need to navigate across broken terrain which is slippery when wet. Another spicy section to watch out for is when leaving Lliwedd to Yr Wyddfa where you’ll encounter scree before joining steps to the Watkin Path. Don’t forget – you’ll be climbing the equivalent of the height of Mont Blanc so make sure you’ve trained plenty of hill miles into your legs.

And of course; the weather! There may be lots of it so make sure you are prepared for anything.

Wrth ddilyn tir disgynedig yn bennaf gydag ychydig o lechfaen a llwybr creigiog, gallwch ddisgwyl ychydig o bopeth dan draed; hyfrydwch glaswelltog rhedadwy yn gymysg â llechi, creigiau wedi’u torri, rwbel, sgri, llwybr defaid a chors.

Bydd heriau, yn enwedig pan fydd y cymylau’n isel ar draws y Glyderau gan y bydd angen i chi lywio ar draws tir toredig sy'n llithrig pan yn wlyb. Rhan gyffrous arall i gadw llygaid allan amdano yw wrth adael Lliwedd i’r Wyddfa lle byddwch yn dod ar draws sgri cyn ymuno â’r grisiau i Lwybr Watkin. Peidiwch ag anghofio – byddwch yn dringo’r hyn sy’n cyfateb i uchder Mont Blanc felly gwnewch yn siŵr bod eich coesau wedi cael digon o ymarfer ar gyfer milltiroedd i fyny bryniau.

Ac wrth gwrs; y tywydd! Efallai y bydd pob math o dywydd yn eich wynebu felly gwnewch yn siŵr eich bod yn barod am unrhyw beth.

FAQ’s:

What is the difference between a circuit and a round?

Absolutely nothing it’s just that there is no equivalent word for “Round” in the Welsh Language and it was very important to us that we have a name that works in both Welsh and English.

Do I have to follow the defined route?

Yes, please. Yr Wyddfa National Park is a working environment with land owned for farmers to produce our food, for people to live, and for businesses to flourish. The high mountain habitat needs to remain healthy to sustain native species so please respect the environment by sticking to the route and following public rights of way where applicable.

What equipment will I need?

Whether you choose to run, fast-pack or walk will determine what sort of kit you will want to carry. As will the time of year you are planning to head out. There are suggested kit lists for each activity here. Feel free to pop in and chat to our staff if you have any questions and don’t forget to listen to our podcast even more information.

Cwestiynau Cyffredin

Beth yw'r gwahaniaeth rhwng cylchdaith a thaith yn ôl a blaen?

Dim byd o gwbl, dim ond nad oes gair cyfatebol slic am “taith yn ôl a blaen” yn yr Iaith Gymraeg ac roedd yn bwysig iawn i ni fod gennym enw sy’n gweithio yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg.

Oes rhaid i mi ddilyn y llwybr diffiniedig?

Oes, os gwelwch yn dda. Mae Parc Cenedlaethol Yr Wyddfa yn amgylchedd gwaith gyda thir yn berchen i ffermwyr gynhyrchu ein bwyd, i bobl fyw, i fusnesau ffynnu ac i ddarparwyr ynni i greu trydan. Mae angen i’r mynydd-dir uchel aros yn iach er mwyn cynnal rhywogaethau brodorol o blanhigion, pryfed ac anifeiliaid felly parchwch yr amgylchedd a'r rhai sy'n gweithio ynddo trwy gadw at y llwybr a dilyn hawliau tramwy cyhoeddus lle bo'n berthnasol.

Pa offer fydd ei angen arnaf?

Bydd y math o git y byddwch am ei gario yn ddibynnol ar p’un a ydych chi'n dewis - rhedeg, gwarbacio cyflym, gwarbacio neu gerdded. Felly hefyd yr adeg o'r flwyddyn rydych yn bwriadu mynd allan. Mae yna restrau citiau awgrymedig ar gyfer pob gweithgaredd yma ond fel rheol – ewch â digon o ddillad ac offer i oroesi unrhyw dywydd! Mae croeso i chi alw heibio a sgwrsio â’n staff os oes gennych unrhyw gwestiynau a pheidiwch ag anghofio gwrando ar ein podlediad am hyd yn oed fwy o wybodaeth.
