How To Patch a Down Jacket

Maybe it was a thorn, maybe it was an ember, maybe your jacket got caught in a karabiner, however you got a hole in your jacket; let’s get it fixed!

If you need something permanent, or want a completely invisible repair, our key brands: Rab, Mountain Equipment, Montane & Berghaus have fantastic repair centres based in the UK. Just click the links above to visit their dedicated repair websites.

Got a different brand of jacket? Don’t worry - we have a whole list of care and repair centres, specialising in outdoor equipment here

The fastest (and most satisfying) way to fix your jacket is to do it yourself. We sell a whole range of patches and glues just for this purpose - and we’ve tried them all! Mending it yourself is super simple but if you don’t fancy yourself with a needle and thread a patch or piece of tape will make a great fix.

It really is this easy:

Top tips:

  • If you are using tape off a roll, cut the corners so they are rounded. This will stop corners peeling away and help the patch stay on longer.

  • Patches should overlap tear by 0.5" (12 mm) in all directions.

  • Apply pressure from the center out. Smooth out any bubbles and ensure the edges lay flat.

We work as part of the Re Action Collective, a non-profit changing the system to make outdoor sport more accessible and affordable — by supporting, connecting, and advocating for local organisations that repair, share, resell and repurpose outdoor gear.
