Scafell Sky Race Report

There was some fast and furious skyrunning running in both the Male and Female open races at the Rab Scafell Sky Race over the weekend.

The weather was awesome with the sun beating down, but a wind on the tops to cool the runners.

Race Director Charlie Sprosen gives an overview……

In the Male race Tom Evans took the lead and kept out in front for all of the race, comfortably increasing his lead over Mark Darbishire once he summited Scafell Pike. Mark had been battling with a few of the front runners, with Spencer Shaw (last years winner), Oliver Mitchell (3rd place in the recent Snowdon Sky Race), Andy Bryce (mens 2nd in Snowdon Sky Race), Brian Sharp and more in a group. Spencer Shaw fell and damaged his knee on the first descent and was basically out of the race. The field of runners opened out from CP3 onwards with the spread really happening around the ultra technical traverse of Great Gable under Napes Needle.

In the Female race Georgia Tindley took control from the start, keeping the pressure on herself and finishing in 9th place overall. Helen Brown pushed hard throughout and came in 16th overall with Alicia Schwarzenbach coming in 25th in the overall results, with the second podium of the season for her after her recent 3rd place in the Snowdon Sky Race.
