#ClimbGreen to win an Edelrid ECO DRY DT 9.6 MM x 60M rope!

Edelrid has been manufacturing ropes since 1863, and today, they are known as a global manufacturer of eco climbing ropes, mountaineering and work safety equipment. As one of the UK’s oldest outdoor gear retailers in the UK; The Climbers Shop (1959) and Joe Brown Shops (1966) have an annual process to assess the full environmental impact of our business.

Now, with our mutual goal to raise awareness towards the environment while doing what we love most - climbing, we are working together to give away two EDELRID TOMMY CALDWELL ECO DRY DT 9.6 MM x 60M ropes!

Join us in the #ClimbGreen initiative by entering this competition and helping to keep our crags clean and litter free while Edelrid takes action by creating the gear that is safe, functional and yet environmentally responsible.

What does #ClimbGreen stand for?

EDELRID’s Climb Green label is a dynamic, internally developed label for products that fulfill the highest standards of responsible design and production on the market. This path of responsibility applies to ecological as well as the social aspect of the design chain.

Each new development activity at Edelrid starts with three core requirements: safety, functionality, and responsibility. They question the potential negative effects of production including a range of aspects such as the impact on climate, ozone depletion, water usage, energy usage, ecotoxicity, and particulate matter, to name just a few defined categories. In a second step, they follow their internal mantra: reduce, reuse, recycle.

The TOMMY CALDWELL ECO DRY DT 9.6 MM rope is the newest member of Edelrid’s #ClimbGreen collection and was developed in collaboration with top US climber Tommy Caldwell. The high sheath content makes it extremely abrasion-resistant and thanks to the PFC- (and PFAS) free Eco Dry coating, it is permanently water and dirt repellent.

Once released into the environment, PFC and PFAS chemicals degrade very slowly and thus pose a long-term environmental problem. With Eco Dry finishing technology, Edelrid has succeeded in developing a process that is almost on a par with high-performance PFCs and PFAS minimising negative environmental impact.

The finishing process of the climbing rope must never compromise the safety and functionality. The Eco Dry process meets all of these requirements, while being 100% free of PFCs and PFAS and also fulfilling the UIAA water repellent standard. It absorbs less than 1 to 2 % of its own weight in water. Like all EDELRID ropes, the TOMMY CALDWELL ECO DRY DT 9.6 MM is bluesign® certified. This means environmentally harmful substances are eliminated right at the start of the textile supply chain to minimize the impact on people and planet. Edelrid has been a bluesign®system partner since 2009 and is the first manufacturer to produce climbing ropes according to the bluesign®system.
