Olympic Performance Stoves

If you happen to own a Soto stove you might just be boiling your brew on the same technology used in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic torches!

The stunning shape of the torch resembles that of a Japanese traditional “Sakuramon” cherry blossom emblem, fusing tradition with modern technology by using the same aluminium extrusion technology used in the manufacture of Shinkansen bullet trains. The seamless shape is made from construction waste from temporary housing built in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, transforming materials that witnessed the rebuilding of shattered lives into a symbol of peace.

So how, exactly, does this extraordinary story link to a small camping stove?

As a premier dealer of Soto stoves we were honoured to have a visit from Tomo Sekiguchi, who not only brought the latest selection of amazing stoves for us to range but an actual real life Olympic torch used in the Tokyo 2020 Para-Olympic relay. Soto are a Japanese company specialising in innovative flaming devices since 1978 ( from pocket blow torches to weed killers to mountain stoves) with their focus on creating burners that take seconds to pre-heat in extreme cold.

Soto created every one of the torches used in both the Olympic and Para-Olympic relays in Tokyo and are exceptionally proud that this was the first year ever that none of the torches blew out.

They invented a burner unit that has 3 stages of flame to prevent them blowing out - the same technology they use in their WindMaster stove.

Beautifully made, this tiny stove (47 x 77 x 44 mm when packed) gives out a fierce heat and is specially designed to ensure the pan sits as close to the blue flame as possible to maximise efficiency in windy weather. In fact the concave deign of the burner head seen clearly in this image acts as a built in windscreen! Boil time is quicker and longer resulting in a swift brew so you can re-charge, re-hydrate and be ready for your next adventure/Olympic sporting event.

Soto’s stoves are compatible with all major gas canisters equipped with a Lindal valve. (Most major brands) The information on the 70/30% mixture indicated on the packaging of SOTO’s stove is required  to meet standard guidelines. SOTO’s stoves will work with any combination of butane, isobutane and/or propane gas mixtures. The choice of gas mixture is based on where the stove is intended to be used and the desired performance.  You can read more about different gas types in our Buyers Guide.

Don’t forget; the optimum number of stoves to own is n + 1

(where “n” is the number you already own).
