Retailer of The Year
It’s official!
There was some hefty competition in our category but we are absolutely delighted to be awarded Best Multi-Site Retailer of 2025!
Our Owners and Directors Paul and Cathy Casey were on hand to receive the award at the Outdoor Industry Association Awards last June. Our trophy has now done a full tour of the shops allowing everyone who made it possible to enjoy their moment of glory.
We are extremely proud of our shops, knowledge, service and we couldn’t achieve our rave Google reviews without the strong relationships we have with both our customers and our suppliers.
Tell your family, tell your friends, tell your club mates and Insta chums:
Our historic shops are packed full of technical clothing and gear for every type of mountain.
We climb, we hike, we run, and we don't stock anything we wouldn't use ourselves.
For the best kit and great advice, you know where to come...

Paul was incredibly helpful in guiding us to the right backpack for my partner. When a minor issue came up the next day (a loose cord), Chris immediately recognised it as a manufacturing fault and couldn’t have been more reasonable. He offered several options (including a full refund) but with the item out of stock and, frankly, too good to throw away over a small fault, we opted for the same-day repair. It was ready in just 30 minutes and came back looking better than new. You really can’t fault the team here: knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and clearly committed to excellent customer service. Highly recommended.

I’ve purchased trail running and climbing gear from The Climbers Shop, and I’m always impressed. Their team has amazing local and race knowledge, often using the same equipment in the races I do. The advice is practical and based on real-world experience.
They sell winter hiking and climbing gear, and even accessories for dogs.
Customer service is excellent; always friendly and helpful. If you need quality gear and expert guidance, I highly recommend them!

Brilliant experience buying new walking boots. Wasn't quite sure which type of shoe I needed, so one of the guys took their time to give me tips and help me try on different options without pushing for sales or a quick decision. Glad I waited until I was back in Ambleside to buy them from a local shop where people are genuinely passionate about the outdoors and happy to pass on their lived experiences.

This is a well stocked shop with knowledgeable and experienced staff; I’ve been using them for over 30 years and have always been very happy with items that I’ve bought from them.
I recently bought what appeared to be a great pair of trousers! They were from a brand that I’ve always been very happy with, and find their cut and fit suits me very well. But I had to return them, with a fault. Unfortunately, the replacement pair developed the same fault!
Owain at the Capel Curig store dealt with the issue; from my first contact by phone, to refunding me after the second pair were returned, it was dealt with very easily, efficiently and graciously. I can’t suggest any improvement on their customer service!
I would absolutely recommend Joe Browns, and will continue to buy the brand in question as I’ve no doubt that this was a blip in an otherwise excellent quality record.

Fantastic shop for climbing gear, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Probably the best shop in the area for walking, hiking and climbing. Extensive range of all types of gear. Happy to shop there again.

Good selection of outdoor merchandise, really welcoming and helpful staff. Definitely worth a stop if you're passing and in need of virtually anything climbing/camping/walking related.

Thank you so much guys for helping us with picking the right pair of mountaneering boots for our trip to the Himalayas! As well as all other pieces of gear we needed (axe, crampons, harnesses etc). Our boots and harnesses were very confortable for summit push (a 16h long day!). They definetely contributed to make our trip successful. We cannot wait to be back in Wales and pay you guys another visit! Thank you so much for all of your help!
