New Slate Guide

After two years of fettling, local climber and member of the Joe Brown staff team, Neil Harrison is very proud to release a unique new guidebook dedicated to North Wales Slate.

Recent Developments (on the Dark Side) introduces over 60 new routes in the Glyn Rhonwy slate quarries, climbed since, or otherwise omitted from the 2018 Rockfax North Wales Slate Guide.

In addition, there are updated descriptions of some existing routes. Recent Developments is intended to be used in conjunction with existing guides for details of approaches and access. Designed to fit easily in your pocket, it provides photo topos of 8 neglected crags hosting mostly sport routes from 5c to 7b+, but also trad routes from VS to E5.

Look carefully at the front cover and you will notice Neil sporting a classic Whillans harness and EB rock boots. Those of you in the know may well recognise the pose as Neil’s homage to the 1977 Peak District Recent Developments supplement.

Inside among the colour photos you’ll spot images not only of Neil but also chief partner-in-climb Fraser Ball, another JB staff team member. On the other side of the lens, staff members Joe Waskiewicz and Chris Watkins have also played a key part.

We are very proud of all the hard work that has gone into pulling this unique guide together and in accordance with Neil’s wishes all profits from the sales of this guide will be donated to the North Wales Bolt Fund.
